About Sour Cream video
Video DescriptionSour cream is an acidic-tasting cream equivalent to unpasteurised cream that has turned and is frequently added to soups, dips and sauces.
You can make your own sour cream by adding 2 tablespoons of buttermilk to 2 cups of fresh cream and allowing the mixture to sour at room temperature, without disturbing it, for at least 24 hours. Homemade sour cream will keep for 3 days in the refrigerator. When cooking with sour cream add it to hot food at the last minute and gently reheat without allowing it to boil or it may separate. If you're counting calories, plain yoghurt can be substituted for sour cream in most recipes. If the yoghurt is too runny it can be thickened with powdered milk.
