Hella Delicious's Blogs

This is a wonderful interview with a lovely lady who spends 70 hours a week or more thinking about pickles. But not the kind of pickle we know today, these pickles are full of living delicious probiotics! Check out this fantastic video, I just had to share it:

In this amazing film, the images of industrial agriculture show us just how sterile an environment most of our food is being grown and raised in. With just incredibly beautiful images this film demonstrates how disconnected our food has become. To treat plants and animals as if their only purpose is to feed us is an extremely arrogant attitude. Online Videos by Veoh.com

This is quoted from an aid worker in Rangoon, Burma/Yangon, Myanmar

"I know you have probably been bombarded by photos of dead bodies floating in the water.  I wasn’t thinking to share any of those photos with you, until I saw this one.  It spoke to me so profoundly of this family of seven’s last, desperate bid for survival, I decided to share it with you.  The children have rope tied on one of their arms, which links them to the other children.  The adults must have tried to keep the children from being carried away in the wind and the water by tethering them to one another and probably to something else, as well.  When I see this photo, I am also reminded how much loss survivors will have to cope with as they try to move forward with their lives."

Although this is a food site, I have to post something about the terrible situation in Burma.

Every day reports of the number of people who have died seem to double.  I hear about cholera, water harvesting, the signature torn skin on arms from clinging to palm trees during the storm.  Then we hear that the latest shipment of aid items has been taken by the military, how the referendum is going through.

Most recently we have been hearing how the roads and bridges are impassible and that there are groups of men going around taking what they want from aid groups.

The thing that is helping to get me through these reports is coming from the postings of aid workers and local Burmese students who are out giving what aid they can to the people who need it.  These groups, working closely with people in small groups have sucessfully helped thousands of people and are helping more.

I am reading these reports on a the site www.gitameit.com which updates daily with various reports from local students, relief workers and other groups.  Also posted on the top of the site is a box full of small organizations that are doing this work and getting aid to people.  We are helping and our donations are reaching the Burmese people.

Hella Delicious is currently creating a new series that demonstrates how to prepare foods that will nourish babies growing inside their mothers. These foods are high in certain fats, protein, vitamins and minerals. These foods are also beneficial for couples with fertility issues and for young children.

The foods and recipes demonstrated will follow the nutritional research done by Dr. Weston A. Price, which is currently being continued in the work of the Weston A. Price foundation and the Price-Pottenger foundation. Our favorite most comprehensive source on how to prepare these foods is Sally Fallon’s book Nourishing Traditions.

For those who have never heard of Dr Weston A. Price this will be a brief introduction:

Weston A. Price was a highly respected dentist in the 1920s. He and his wife traveled the globe and extensively researched fourteen populations, from the Swiss alps to the Pacific Islands, who were existing on traditional diets. The members of these societies were long-lived and largely disease free.

His work was carried out at a time when these populations still were subsisting solely on their traditional diets. While he was studying these groups some of them were moving to more modern, processed foods and he was able to document physical changes in their dental structures resulting form this change in their diet.

One of the things that he found was that people around the world who were subsisting on their traditional diets generally had no cavities, strong teeth and bone structure, and could easily grow their wisdom teeth without crowding the other teeth.

He also found that women who were on the traditional diets would have a strong healthy baby, but if they transitioned to consuming more refined foods, such as sugar and flour their babies would often have weaker bone structures and dental issues. If the mother then went back to a traditional diet and later had another baby, once again the bone structure and teeth would be strong.

This is the most amazing thing! Check out how this musical group manufactures instruments out of carrots, pumpkins and just about everything else. And wow does the music sound great!! I just loved it and had to share! Check out their website at: http://www.gemueseorchester.org/
