Joy was born and raised in Chicago. Growing up, Joy found that she had a strong interest in the arts specifically acting, dancing, and singing. During Jr. High school, Joy played a few small parts in her school's plays. Joy developed a passion for history and politics. While only in 8th grade, Joy would write letters to President George Bush commending his efforts during the gulf war. Joy received several thank you letters from the White House and this response sparked a interest in politics. During Joy's junior year in high school, Joy was a part of Who's Who of American Students (1992-1993). Joy was invited to participate in the National Youth Leadership forum for the Military and Defense in Washington D.C. for a week. Joy graduated from high school and attended Trinity Christian College. Joy majored in History, minored in Political Science and Philosophy. During college, Joy participated in student government, dance troope, and gospel choir. During the summer before senior year, Joy had volunteered as a summer day camp teacher for inner city youth for Urban Promise in Camden, NJ. During Joy's adventure in Camden, NJ, Joy discovered her passion for cooking and hosting. Joy enjoyed experimental cooking for her housemates. Joy also enjoyed the presentation of meals and making sure everyone was pleased. Once Joy returned to college after her summer experience in Camden, NJ, Joy hosted a party for the President of the college and several faculty members to honor them for their support for her volunteering in Urban Promise in Camden, NJ. Joy prepared a lunch with only a few ingredients and her imagination. The dishes featured were a chicken tomato stew with vegetables served over rice. Followed by sauted spinach with chicken breast over pasta. Joy received praise from her guest not only for the delicious food, but for the presentation which she enjoyed most of all. Joy found that she loved hosting, but wasn't sure where it will fit in her future plans. During Joy's senior year in college, Joy's constitutional law professor suggested that she apply to a program called the American Studies Program. The American Studies Program was a internship program based in Washington D.C. where students interned part-time at an institution of choice while studying about policy at school. Joy had an interest to apply to the Supreme Court as an intern, but once she saw that the White House was an option, Joy decided to apply to the White House intership program. Joy's other choice was for Amnesty International, but Joy preferred the White House. Joy was accepted to intern in the Office of Public Liaison in January 2000. Joy learned about how the President communicated with different ethnic and social groups through out America and the world. Joy also learned about how the social events were planned in the White House. Joy was able to participate in the arrival ceremony of the King and Queen of Spain and the annual Easter Egg Roll. After Joy's experience in the White House she left desiring to find a career in political event planning. Joy graduated that spring and relocated to Philadelphia, PA to volunteer in a inner city mission. While volunteering in Philadelphia, Joy ended up volunteering and for local politicans. Joy interned for the Campaign to elect Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and State Senator Vincent Hughes of Pennsylvania. Joy decided that she wanted to return to Washington D.C. to try politics again. Joy interned for U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee. Joy also worked as a Staff Assistant for U.S. Senator Jim Talent of Missouri. Joy's experience working on Capitol Hill allowed her to see the inner workings of legislative politics and the opportunity to attend some events. Joy attended receptions that were sponsored by lobbyist and U.S. Senate committees. Joy even attended the infamous former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond party where Senator Trent Lott subsequently lost his Majority Leadership. One day while Joy was working on Capitol Hill, she was approached to model for Jet Magazine's Beauty of the Week. The issue was released in April 28th, 2003. After the release, Joy's desire to try entertainment started to become her focus. Joy eventually left Washington D.C. to persuit a career in acting. Before Joy moved to New York City, Joy moved back to Philadelphia, PA to work at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Even though Joy worked as a Front Desk Receptionist, Joy comptiplated a career in event planning if the acting didn't work out. Joy consider studing culinary arts or event planning in Europe. Joy later decided to move to New York to pursuit acting. Joy attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts for a while, but she still found that she wasn't happy with the studies. Joy continued to try to find out what direction to go with her career. Joy would love to explore her talents in Europe, but she hadn't discovered which path to choose. One of Joy's dreams is to become the White House Social Director. Joy would love to find a way to combine all of her passions in traveling, cooking, entertaining, politics, and make it a life long career. Joy hopes to develop her culinary taste for food, wine, and hosting by studying with the best culinary artist that the world has to offer. Joy hopes that her cooking show will provide a path to direct her exactly where she belongs.
