Zsesty Steak Carbonnade Recipe

Ingredients

 
2/3 cup beer
 
1/2 cup chopped onion
 
1/3 cup salsa catsup or catsup
 
2 tablespoons sugar
 
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
 
4 teaspoons lemon juice
 
1/2 teaspoon paprika
 
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
 
1/4 teaspoon pepper
 
6 top loin steaks, cut 1 inch thick

Directions

1 In a small saucepan combine beer, onion, catsup, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, paprika, chili powder, and pepper. Bring to boiling, reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes. Cool.
2 Use a sharp knife to score steaks on both sides. Place steaks in a plastic bag set inside a deep bowl. Pour marinade over steaks. Seal bag and turn steaks to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or up to 24 hours.
3 Remove steaks from bag; reserve marinade. Place steaks on the grill rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium-hot coals. Grill steaks, uncovered, for 8 to 12 minutes for rare doneness or 13 to 15 minutes for medium doneness, turning the meat halfway through grilling.
4 Meanwhile, place reserved marinade in a small saucepan; bring to a full boil. Cook and stir for 1 to 2 minutes.
