Zitronen Ringe Recipe
First of all let me thank my neighbor for sharing this excellent Zitronen Ringe recipe. I tried this recipe for Zitronen Ringe the other day and was totally bowled over. This Zitronen Ringe when served as Dessert is sure to please your family members. The Zitronen Ringe holds a high place in the German cuisine. You do not need to be a gourmet to gauge how delicious and flavorful this dish is.
Ingredients
6 ounces sweet butter
1 cup sugar
3 medium-size eggs
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
Grated rind of 1/2 lemon
1 tablespoon white rum or lemon juice
1 egg white, slightly beaten
Pearl sugar or crushed loaf sugar
Directions
Cream the butter and sugar until light.
Add the eggs one at a time and beat until fluffy.
Add the flour, lemon rind, and rum; mix well.
Chill the dough thoroughly.
Break off a small portion of the dough.
Roll out with hands on a lightly floured board into a strip the thickness of a pencil; cut into 5-inch lengths and shape into rings, pressing the ends together.
Brush with the egg white and sprinkle with pearl sugar.
Arrange the rings 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake in a 350° oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until only delicately browned.
Remove from the cookie sheet while still warm.
