Recipe Story

Recipe was given to me by a very lovely lady, a pediatrician, in Ukraine. ORIGIN: Dr. Maya Valinchuk, Kyiv-Ukraine, circa 1999

Ingredients

 
1 lb Ground meat
 
1 ea Onion
 
1 c Boiled rice
 
Salt & pepper to taste

Directions

Wash rice well, pour hot water over it & boil until semi-done.
Transfer into a colander & chill for 15-20 mins.
Pre-heat oven to 375 deg-F.
Add minced meat, chopped onion, salt, pepper, & mix well.
Shape into balls, roll in flour & lightly brown in butter.
Place into a sauce-pan then pour some broth over them.
Cover with lid & bake in oven for 20 mins.
Shortly before removing from oven you will removelid & allow "hedgehogs" brown.
Serve sour cream seperately as a garnish.

I have eaten these many years ago didn't know they were Russian-I think I was in Germany and they were served at the hotel dining room in Frankfurt.
