Ingredients

 1/4 kg. channa dal
 Tomatoes3 Medium, blanched
 Salt To Taste
 Curry leaves8 (Baghar:)
 Mustard seeds1/2 Teaspoon (Baghar:)
 Onion1 Medium (Grind:)
 1/2 pc. ginger
 Garlic10 Gram (Grind:)
 Coconut1/4 (Grind:)
 Red chillies10 (Grind:)
 Oil3 Tablespoon (Grind:)
 1 small lump jaggery
 1/2 cup thick tamarind water
 Turmeric1/4 Teaspoon (Grind:)
 1/2 tsp. cummin seeds
 Poppy seeds1 Tablespoon (Grind:)
 Sesame seeds1 Tablespoon (Grind:)
 Caraway seeds1 Teaspoon (Grind:)
 1 tsp. cummin seeds

Directions

Boil dal with 6 cups water till soft.
Drain off water and use dal.
Heat oil, fry baghar till it splutters.
Add masala and turmeric, fry well.
Add dal, water and bring to the boil, add in salt, tomatoes, jaggery and tamarind, simmer for 10 mins.
Serve with rice.
