Ingredients

 
2 1/2 cups flour
 
1 pkg. dry yeast
 
2 1/4 cups milk
 
2 Tbsp. sugar
 
1 Tbsp. shortening
 
2 tsp. Salt

Directions

Heat milk with sugar, shortening and salt to 120°.
Add liquid to dry ingredients.
Beat 1/2 minute at low speed, then 3 minutes at high speed.
Change to dough hook and add 3 1/2 cups flour or enough to make moderately stiff dough.
Knead for 8-10 minutes.
Shape into ball and put in buttered bowl turning over to coat.
Cover and let rise in warm place until double in size (1 1/2 hours).
Punch down, divide in half and let rest on lightly-floured board 10 minutes.
Shape into loaf and put into 2 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 greased pans, let rise, covered, until double.
Bake at 375° until done or about 45-60 minutes.
Turn out of pans and lay on sides to cool.
