Directions

Wash wheat berries by placing in wire strainer; run cold water through berries, lifting with fingers to clean thoroughly.
Heat berries and water to boiling in 3-quart saucepan; boil 2 minutes.
Remove from heat; cover and let stand 1 hour.
Heat to boiling; reduce heat.
Cover and simmer until tender, 1 3/4 to 2 hours; drain.
Heat wheat berries, 1/2 cup milk, the dates, almonds, brown sugar and nutmeg just to boiling; reduce heat.
Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until milk is absorbed, about 5 minutes.
Serve hot with milk and, if desired, additional brown sugar.
