Ingredients

 100 g/4 oz margarine
 100 g/4 oz sugar
 175 g/6 oz dates, stoned and chopped
 50 g/2 oz sultanas
 50 g/2 oz glace cherries, chopped
 50 g/2 oz walnuts, chopped
 50 g/2 oz Rice Krispies
 100 g/4 oz plain or milk chocolate, melted

Directions

Put the margarine, sugar, dates, sultanas and cherries in a saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring well.
Simmer until the dates are soft and tender.
Remove from the heat and fold in the walnuts and Rice Krispies.
Turn into a greased Swiss roll tin and spread out evenly.
Cool slightly, then cover with the melted chocolate.
Cool completely before cutting into pieces.
