Vanilla Cream Pie Recipe

Ingredients
9 inch Baked Pie Shell
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Bake pie shell.
Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in saucepan.
Beat milk and egg yolks; stir gradually into sugar mixture.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
Boil and stir 1 minute.
Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla.
Pour immediately into baked pie shell.
Immediately press plastic wrap onto filling.
Chill at least 2 hours.
(Can be served immediately.) If desired, serve with sweetened whipped cream.
