Recipe Story

This cake makes me absolutely nostalgic. This is the very first cake that I learnt from my mom when I began baking. The aroma of this cake reminds me of the days when we would be back from school and the entire house was filled with the aroma of freshly baked cake. Feel nice when I see the same glitter in my daughter's eyes when I bake the cake. This is a regular at my place and my family really enjoys this vanilla cake.

Ingredients

Refined Flour (maida) – 1 cup

Sugar – 1 cup

Melted butter – 1 cup

Baking powder – 1 ½ tsp (not heaped)

Eggs – 3 ( use at room temperature)

Vanilla essence – 3-4 drops

Directions

Sift refined flour and baking powder 2-3 times. Add to this the sugar, melted butter, eggs and vanilla essence. Mix well (you can even put all the ingredients together in the mixer and beat well). If using the mixer , do ensure that you do not vary speeds, beat at one chosen speed. Grease a cake tin and pour the cake mixture into it. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees for 30 minutes.

well navya, usually you set the oven so that it reaches 180 degree. some oven have a preheating button that needs you to set the temp and beeps when the temp has reached. you can set it any temp. you like.. usually its good to select the mid range temp. of your oven and preheat for 10 mins. dats standard. then bake the cake keeping the oven temp set to 180 ...hope that helps u :)

Hi, You have mentioned to preheat the oven at 180 degrees. Now, here is my question. Should be preheat the oven at 180 degrees, and if so for how many minutes? After preheating, should we turn off the oven and then will the cake bake at the preheated temperature all by itself?? I am new to the kitchen, and hence my questions would sound a bit stupid. Please do not mind and pls do reply to my questions. Thanks in Advance. Navya Krishna
