Upside-Down Pear Cake Recipe

Ingredients
1 1-lb. 13-oz. can pears
1/4 c. melted butter
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. nutmeg
12 walnut halves
10 maraschino cherries
pkg. white cake mix
1 pkg. lemon gelatin
3/4 c. oil
4 eggs, slightly beaten
Lemon extract to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Drain pears; reserve 3/4 cup pear juice.
Pour butter into 9 x 13-inch pan.
Combine sugar and nutmeg; sprinkle over butter in pan.
Arrange pears, cut sides down, in pan.
Arrange walnuts and cherries betwsen pears.
Combine cake mix, gelatin, oil, eggs, reserved juice and lemon ex- tract.
Beat with mixer for 4 minutes.
Pour batter over pear mixture in pan.
Bake for 55 minutes or until cake tests done.
Serve with whipped cream if desired.
