1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup milk
1 egg

Cut in vegetable shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add milk and egg; stir just enough to moisten the dry ingredients.

Bake at 400° for 35 to 40 minutes.
