 Egg1
 Molasses1/4 Cup (16 tbs)

 Baking powder1 Teaspoon
 Baking soda1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt1/8 Teaspoon
 Boiling water1/3 Cup (16 tbs)

Directions

If using a conventional oven, preheat to 325 °F (160 °C).
In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar.
Coat bottom of a square 9 inch (23 cm) pyrex dish.
Peel apples, if desired.
Cut into thick slices.
Remove core.
Place into mold.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Batter In a bowl, cream butter and sugar.
Fold in egg and molasses.
Set aside.
In a second bowl, sift dry ingredients.
Fold into first mixture.
While stirring, blend in boiling water.
Pour into dish, on top of apples.
Bake in conventional oven 40 minutes, or in microwave oven 12 minutes, on high.
Remove from oven.
Immediately turn out onto a plate.
Let drain.
