Unsugared Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
| 1 double pie crust, homemade or store bought | ||
| Apples | 12 Large, peeled | |
| Dark raisins | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1/4 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped | ||
| 3/4 cup unsweetened apple juice | ||
| Butter | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Tapioca | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Vanilla | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Directions
Place oven rack in lowest position.
Preheat oven to 400°.
Line pie pan with bottom crust.
Fill crust with apples, raisins and walnuts.
In a small saucepan, heat juice, butter, tapioca and vanilla until butter melts.
Pour over apples.
Top with second crust.
Crimp edges and cut a steam hold in center of pie.
Bake at 400° for 50 minutes or until crust is browned.
Cool before cutting.
Virtue may, upon occasion, be compromised by serving this unsugared pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
