Ham & Turnips Au Gratin Recipe

Ingredients
2 pounds turnips, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whipping cream
1 teaspoon dried whole savory
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup cooked ham, cut into julienne strips and divided
11/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 cup soft breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Directions
Place turnips and salt in a saucepan; cover with water, and bring to a boil.
Cover and cook over medium-high heat 5 minutes; drain and set aside.
Combine whipping cream, savory, and pepper; set aside.
Place one-third of turnips in a greased 2-quart casserole.
Top with 1/3 cup ham and 1/3 cup whipping cream mixture.
Repeat procedure with remaining turnips, ham, and whipping cream mixture.
Top with cheese and breadcrumbs; dot with butter.
Bake at 375° for 40 to 45 minutes.
