Turnip Gratin Recipe

Ingredients
1 turnip peeled and cut in dice
1/4 cup water 50 mL
1/4 cup butter 50 mL
1 onion, chopped
2 tbsp chopped fresh dill or 1 tsp dried dillweed 25 mL
1/2 tsp salt 2 mL
Freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup shredded Swiss Cheddar cheese 125 mL
Directions
In 6 cup (1.5 L) glass casserole, combine turnip and water; cover with plastic wrap or glass lid.
Microwave on High for 12 minutes.
Let stand for 5 minutes.
Drain, then mash or puree turnip.
Set aside.
In same casserole, combine 2 tbsp (25 mL) of the butter and the onion; microwave on High for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes or until onion is softened, stirring halfway through.
Stir in turnip puree, dill, salt, pepper to taste, and all but 2 tbsp (25 mL) of the cheese.
Taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary.
Dot with remaining butter; sprinkle with remaining cheese.
Microwave on High for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.
