Crush with rolling pin until cereal resembles coarse meal.
Sift flour once, measure, add soda, and sift again.
Cream butter, add sugar gradually, creaming thoroughly.
Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board.
Cut with floured 2-inch cooky cutter.
Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (400Â°F.) for 5 minutes.
Make cooky sandwiches, spreading Fruit Filling between two cookies.
For crisp Tril-bys, spread filling between cookies just before serving.
To make Fruit Filling, combine 1 cup of chopped dates or raisins, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 cup of water in saucepan.
Cook over low heat stirring frequently until filling is thick enough to spread.
Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
Makes about 1 1/4 cups of filling.
