Treacle Tea Scones Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons treacle or molasses
Directions
In a mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, soda, cream of tartar, allspice, and salt.
Cut in the butter or margarine till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in center; stir in milk and treacle or molasses just till moistened.
Spread in lightly greased 10-inch oven-going skillet.
Cook, covered, over medium-low heat for 20 to 25 minutes or till golden on bottom and set on edges.
Place skillet under broiler 4 inches from heat; broil for 4 to 5 minutes till golden.
