Top Hat Stuffed Peppers Recipe
Top hat stuffed peppers are green bell peppers stuffed and cooked meat, rice and celery mix. Seasoned with garlic and onions for flavor, the stuffed green peppers also have the twist of tomato sauce and basil. It can be served as a side dish or an entrée
Ingredients
5 green peppers
1 pound hamburger
1/4 cup chopped celery
1 cup quick-cooking rice
1/3 cup catsup
2 tablespoons chopped onion
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Dash of pepper
1 egg
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon dried basil leaves
Directions
Cut thin slice from stem end of each pepper.
Remove all seeds and membranes; wash inside and out.
Mix hamburger, celery, rice, catsup, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, pepper and egg.
Fill peppers with meat mixture.
Place in square baking dish, 8x8x2 inches.
Cover loosely and microwave until meat is firm, 10 to 12 minutes.
Mix tomato sauce, sugar and basil in 2 cup glass measure.
Microwave to boiling, 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve sauce over peppers.
