Tongue with Tomato Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
| Tongue | 1 | |
| Tomatoes | 1 Can (10oz) | |
| 1 white mild onion— sliced | ||
| Vinegar | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 cup of stock from the tongue | ||
| Sugar | 1/3 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Butter | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Cinnamon | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Allspice | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| Cloves | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
Directions
GETTING READY
1. Clean tongue thoroughly and wash it.
2. In a large heavy bottomed saucepan, place tongue and enough water to cover.
3. Boil the tongue for about 3 hours until tender.
4. Preheat the oven to 300° F
MAKING
5. Drain the boiled tongue reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid.
6. Place in a baking dish or pan.
7. Peel the tomatoes and add to the pan along with onions and cooking liquid.
8. Add all the remaining ingredients.
9. Bake in the oven for 3 hours.
SERVING
10. Serve the tongue with baked or mashed potatoes.
