Tomato Swiss Steak Recipe
I love this Tomato Swiss Steak recipe for it provides me such rave comments every single time I cook it. The Canadian Tomato Swiss Steak is amazingly appetizing as a Side Dish for meals. You must try this recipe.
Ingredients
1 1/2-2 pounds round steak, 3/4 inch thick
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper Suet,drippings or cooking oil
1 small onion, sliced
1 1/2-2 cups tomato juice
1tablespoon chopped celery
I tablespoon chopped green pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Directions
Snip fat edge of steak to prevent curling.
Mix flour, salt and pepper, and, using edge of plate, pound mixture into both sides of meat.
Heat small amount of fat in heavy frying pan.
Brown steak thoroughly on both sides over high heat.
Add onion slices, and cook until brown and softened.
Reduce heat, and add remaining ingredients.
Cover tightly, and cook slowly about 1 1/2 hours, turning meat once and adding a little more tomato juice or hot water if necessary.
Note: Swiss steak may be baked at 325°F. after top-of-the-stove browning.
