Directions

Simmer tomatoes, onion, bay leaf, and stock 20 minutes.
Put into blender 10 seconds; pass through sieve to remove tiny pieces of tomato skins.
Melt butter; add flour.
Add 1 cup strained tomato juices gradually; stir with wire whisk until thickened.
Add sugar and herbs; simmer 5 minutes.
Correct seasoning with salt and pepper.
