Ingredients

 
1/2 teaspoon salt
 
5 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
 
6 shallots, thinly sliced
 
1 1/2 tablespoons butter
 
1 bay leaf
 
3 peppercorns
 
2 thin slices lemon peel
 
1 teaspoon vinegar
 
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
 
1 teaspoon sugar
 
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
 
1/2 cup water

Directions

Add salt to tomatoes, brown shallots in butter in saucepan; add bay leaf, peppercorns, lemon peel, vinegar, pepper, sugar, and tomatoes.
Cook until tender.
Remove bay leaf and peppercorns, blend flour and water to smooth paste.
Add to mixture cook, stirring, until thickened.
Serve over meat balls
