I love Dal and Tomato Dal is a favorite. Its so easy to make and yet not time consuming. Its great with any Indian Bread and Tomato Dal mixed with Mango pickle (Avakaya) and eaten with rice with a few potato chips on the side is a family favorite. I however add some tamarind juice (by soaking a little bit of tamarind in water for about 10 minutes and then squeezing the tamarind pulp to get juice out of it, then discarding the tamarind pulp) to the dal while cooking to get a tangier taste.

Very well presented. You're right, Dal is the main source of protein for vegetarians in India. I love all types of Dal...my everyday favourite is "Arhar". I do cook it at times, but differently. Am gonna try your recipe soon. Just 1 question- Will it actually take me 75 mins of preparation time...I think thats a bit too long!
