Tomato Chili Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 medium-size yellow onion, finely chopped
1 large sweet green pepper, cored, seeded, and finely chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder, or to taste
1 tablespoon minced fresh oregano or 1 teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 large tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 1/2 cups low-sodium tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 medium-sizejalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped (optional)
3 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro (coriander)
Directions
1 ln a medium-size saucepan, heat the oil over moderate heat.
Add the onion and green pepper and saute, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes.
Add the chili powder, oregano, and cumin and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, and jalapefio peppers if desired, and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.
Stir in the cilantro.
Add the onion and green pepper and saute, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes.
Add the chili powder, oregano, and cumin and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, and jalapefio peppers if desired, and bring to a boil.

Stir in the cilantro.
