Directions

Cream together shortening, sugars, eggs, and vanilla till light.
Stir together flour, soda, and 1 teaspoon salt; add to creamed mixture.
Beat well.
Stir in chocolate, nuts, and 1 teaspoon hot water.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto un-greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.
