ThreeGrain Stew Recipe

Ingredients
1 pound beef stew cubes
4 tablespoons oil
2 quarts water
4 tablespoons cracked wheat
5 tablespoons cracked corn
4 tablespoons cracked rye
1 large onion, chopped
3-4 carrots, peeled and diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 large turnip, peeled and diced
2/3 teaspoons salt
Pepper
Directions
Brown the meat in the oil in a large kettle.
Add the water, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
Allow to cool, and then refrigerate until the fat hardens on top of the water.
Skim off fat.
Add the grains and vegetables, and simmer until they are tender.
Add water during cooking if needed.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
