Ingredients
Frankfurters
1 generous tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
American cheese, cut in strips
2 heaping tablespoons mayonnaise
1 teaspoon mustard
Dash of cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon sweet oil or olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Slit the inside curve of each frankfurter almost from end to end, but not quite, and almost all the way through, but not quite.
Into the slit insert a stick of American cheese, and press it in firmly.
Mix the other ingredients together and, with the tip of a teaspoon, dredge each slit to overflowing with this sauce.
Place the frankfurters in a broiler pan and brown them in a moderate oven.
Leave them in the oven at least until they are heated thoroughly and the cheese is well melted; then hasten the cooking, if you must, by browning them under the broiler.
They will brown nicely, but more slowly, in the oven.
