Tarkari Ni Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients

 
300 gms. fine basmati rice
 
50 gms. masoor dal
 
1/2 cup onions, sliced deep fried
 
1 teaspoon carraway seeds
 
11 1/2 teaspoons turmeric powder
 
10-15 peppercorns
 
2" cinnamon pieces
 
6-8 cloves
 
3-4 bay leaves
 
2 large onions, chopped
 
1 large tomato, sliced
 
250 gms. each: sweet potatoes, carrots and lady fingers, chopped fine, salted and fried.
 
100 gms. green peas, boiled, salted
 
1 coconut, thick milk removed
 
1/2 cup coriander, chopped salt to taste pure ghee

Directions

1. Fry the chopped onions, carraway seeds, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and bay leaves in two serving spoons of ghee and when lightly done add the washed rice and dal, turmeric and salt. Cover with sufficient water so that the grains are completely cooked. When the water has evaporated add the fried onions and boiled vegetables and the coconut milk. Mix, cover tightly and keep on a low flame till completely cooked. When serving sprinkle with coriander leaves and decorate with sliced tomatoes.
