Recipe Story

If you are from Bulgaria you would be familiar with this dish. Plain old fashion yogurt is a Bulgarian creation and is a popular staple in the Bulgarian cuisine .

Ingredients

1 pound Plain Yogurt,4 fresh pickles (not pickled pickles),1/2 cup chopped fresh dill,1/3 cup ground walnuts,2tbs olive oil,1 clove minced garlic, salt to taste,1tsp ground pepper, pinch of sugar, splash of red wine vinegar.

Directions

In a pestle mash garlic with a pinch of salt, add shelled walnuts and mash. Chop fine fresh dill . Peel and dice cucumbers (you can use any fresh cucumbers if pickles are not available). In a bowl mix yogurt with olive oil, sugar and vinegar to a smooth consistency add all the remaining ingredients. You can serve the dish immediately but it will taste richer if you leave in fridge for 1 hr.
You can serve it as a salad or you can add water and serve it as a cold summer soup.
Great with lamb or grilled meats. Stuffed grape leaves. Or just by itself.
