Ingredients

 Dates8
 Chilli powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Tamarind125 Gram
 Salt1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Jaggery50 Gram

Directions

Soak the tamarind in water.
Soak the dates separately for three or four hours; then cut them into small pieces and remove the stones.
Boil the dates in two and a half cups of water on a low fire till soft.
When cool, mash the dates to a thick liquid.
Squeeze the tamarind to extract a thick juice.
Crush the jaggery with a fork.
Mix the two and bring to boil on a low fire.
Remove from the heat.
When cool, add the dates and salt and chilli powder.
This sauce is delicious served with any of the following:
a) Boiled potatoes, peeled and cut into small pieces.
b) Boiled colocasja, peeled and cut into small pieces.
c) Bananas, cut into thin rounds.
d) Chopped almonds.
e) Walnuts, chopped or ground.
f) Roasted groundnuts, crushed.
g) Pakoras made with green chillies soaked in the sauce.
h) Channa dhal koftas soaked in curds and dotted with the sauce.
