Tadka moong/Mooga saarupkari Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup whole moong (Green moong/mung beans)
2 tomatoes, diced
2 green chillies, slit
1" ginger, minced
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
2-3 dry red chillies
a pinch of asafetida
Directions
Wash and soak moong for 3-4 hours. (You can skip this stage, but you need to cook the moong longer).
Pressure cook along with tomatoes, green chillies, ginger and salt for 4 whistles or until soft.
Mash the beans slightly with a ladle.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add cumin seeds,cut dry red chillies and asafetida. Mix well. Pour this tadka over the moong. Mix well.
Serve hot along with steamed rice or chapati.

I love tadka... hot and piping with rotis! we never used garlic at our place for tadka but anything with garlic tastes great.. lovely post!!

Hey Sarita, really good recipe..but I am not too much of an asoefetida fan and way i can replace that? or is it a problem if i avoid it?

I have never tried this recipe without asafetida. Actually asafetida is used to prevent flatulence. That is why I like to add it to most of the lentil curries, and I also like its fragrance.

Hey Sarita! You are back after such a long time...good to see your recipe again here...this tadka moong is very similar to tadka chana. have you ever tried that?? If you add garlic in this recipe, you won't feel like leaving this tadka moong...:))
