Szekely Gulyas Recipe
Szekely Gulyas has a grand taste. Szekely Gulyas gets its taste from pork meat mixed with sauerkraut and sour cream. Szekely Gulyas is inspired by many world class restaurants.
Ingredients
2 large onions, finely chopped
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 pounds lean pork shoulder, cut in 1-inch cubes
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons Hungarian paprika
1 teaspoon caraway seed
About 1 cup water
2 cans (about 1 lb. each) sauerkraut, drained
1 cup commercial sour cream
Directions
In a large, heavy frying pan or Dutch oven, slowly saute onion in butter just until onion is transparent.
Add pork, sprinkle it with salt, and slowly saute, stirring to brown well on all sides.
Stir in paprika and caraway seed.
Add 1/4 cup of the water, cover pan, and simmer slowly, stirring occasionally, until meat is tender, about 45 minutes. (Add more water as needed, but no more than 1/4 cup at a time.) Stir in sauerkraut and simmer about 15 minutes longer.
Taste, and correct seasoning, if needed.
