Syrup Bread Recipe
Ingredients
| 2 1/2 tablespoons golden or light corn syrup | ||
| Milk | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Ground ginger | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| 2 cups sifted self-rising flour or 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted with 2 teaspoons baking powder | ||
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Cream of tartar | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Baking soda | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Directions
Slowly heat the syrup until liquid and then add the milk.
Mix all the dry ingredients together and make a well in the center.
Add the syrup and milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix together to form a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a floured baking sheet and shape into a round cake about 6 inches in diameter with floured hands.
Brush the bread with milk and bake it toward the top of a moderately hot oven (400°F) for 15-20 minutes, until it is risen and golden brown.
