Ingredients

1 bundle Swiss chard (about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds)

1/3 cap vegetable oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1/4 cup water, or homemade vegetable or chicken broth

2 tablespoons lemon juice

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Lemon wedges

Directions

1. Remove the stalks from the chard and cut into 1 1/2-inch lengths. Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a heavy skillet and saute the onion and 1 clove garlic until tender but not browned. Add the stalks and cook for 5 minutes, stirring often.
2. Add the water, lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until tender.
3. Put the chard leaves in a large pot with boiling salted water and cook for 3 minutes. Drain. In a second skillet heat the remaining oil and saute the remaining garlic clove. Add the greens and salt and pepper to taste to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes, or until the greens are tender.
