Ingredients
6 eggs, separated
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. toasted bread crumbs
1 c. ground filberts
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Directions
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Beat egg yolks with 1 cup sugar; fold in egg whites.
Add bread crumbs and filberts; pour batter into lightly greased 8-inch square pan.
Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
Combine remaining sugar, water, cinnamon and lemon juice in saucepan; cook over low heat until syrupy.
Cut warm cake into dia- monds; pour hot syrup over cake.
