Sweet Beef Braise Recipe
The sweet beef braise is a preparation made with beef chuck. Cooked with sweet soy sayce and gingerroot, this sweet beef braise is an asian inspired beef recipe. Braised along with vegetables like chinese beans and onions, the sweet beef braise can be served with rice.
Ingredients
| 1 1/2 pounds boneless beef chuck, cut into 1 inch pieces | ||
| Cooking oil | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Water | 11/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 3 tablespoons Sweet Soy Sauce | ||
| Ginger root | 2 Teaspoon, grated | |
| Wine vinegar | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cloves | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Pepper | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| 2 salam or bay leaves | ||
| Onions | 2 Medium, cut into wedges | |
| 12 ounces Chinese beans or peapods | ||
| Cold water | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Cornstarch | 1 Tablespoon | |
Directions
In a Dutch oven brown meat, half'at a time, in hot oil.
Drain off fat.
Add water, Sweet Soy Sauce, gingerroot, vinegar, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, and salam or bay leaves.
Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
Cover; simmer for 40 minutes.
Add onion wedges.
Simmer, uncovered, about 20 minutes or till tender.
Meanwhile, place beans or pea pods in a steamer basket.
Place over boiling water.
Cover and steam for 20 to 30 minutes or till crisp tender.
Remove the salam leaves.
Combine cold water and cornstarch; stir into mixture.
Cook and stir till bubbly.
Cook and stir 2 minutes more.
To serve, transfer to a platter; surround with beans.
Garnish with hot peppers, if desired.
