Directions

Shred the cabbage .
Chop the onions finely .
Pare and core the apple and chop coarsely .
Melt the butter in a pan and cook the onion for 5 minutes over low heat, stirring well.
Add the sugar and vinegar and put in the cabbage.
Stir well and add the cider or wine, salt and pepper.
Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Stir in the apple pieces and continue cooking for 1 hour.
Alternatively, bake the cabbage in the oven at 325°F for 2 hours.
This recipe is particularly good with sausages, pork or duck.
