Sweet And Sour Red Cabbage And Apple Salad Recipe
Sweet and sour red cabbage and apple salad is a fruited vegetable salad. Made with tart apples and added peppers, onions, the sweet and sour salad is flavored with vinegar and honey. Tossed to serve, it is unique in taste and flavor.
Ingredients
1 medium size head red cabbage, cored and sliced thin
1 large tart apple, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 small sweet green pepper, cored, seeded, and sliced lengthwise into strips about 1/4 inch wide
1 small yellow onion, chopped fine
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
1/2 teaspoon each black pepper and ground cloves
Directions
In a large heatproof bowl, combine the cabbage, apple, green pepper, and onion and toss well to mix; set aside.
In a small saucepan over moderate heat, cook and stir the vinegar, honey, caraway seeds, black pepper, and cloves until the mixture just begins to boil about 1 minute.
Pour the hot mixture over the salad and toss well.
Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.
