Ingredients

 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or margarine
 1 medium-size red onion, slivered
 Apples2 Large, unpeeled
 Red cabbage1 Large, shredded
 Cider vinegar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Dark raisins1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Light brown sugar3 Tablespoon
 Ground nutmeg1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 1/4 teaspoon each ground cloves and black pepper

Directions

1. In a large heavy saucepan, melt the butter over moderately high heat. Add the onion and apples and saute for 5 minutes or until soft.
2. Stir in the remaining ingredients and toss to coat. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 40 minutes or until tender. Serve with Schnitz-Un-Gnepp.
