Swedish Tea Ring Recipe
Ingredients
Yeast- 1 cake
Water- 1/4 cup, lukewarm
Milk- 1 cup, scalded
Salt- 3/4 teaspoon
Sugar- 1/4 cup
Shortening- 6 tablespoons
Flour- 3 1/2 cups sifted
Egg- 1, beaten
Melted butter
Nuts- 1/2 cup, finely chopped
Directions
GETTING READY
1.Start by preheating the oven to 400F degrees
MAKING
2.In a bowl, soften the yeast
3.Now combine scalded milk, salt, sugar and shortening
4.When the mixture turns lukewarm add yeast and half the flour and beat properly
5.Let rise until very light, then add egg and remaining flour and mix properly
6.Let rise
7.Roll dough into a rectangular sheet on a lightly floured board
8.Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with nuts
9.On greased baking sheet, roll up like a jelly roll and form into a ring
10Using a large pair of scissors, cut ring around edge at 2 inch intervals, leaving inner edge intact
11.Turn each slice to lie flat on pan
12.Let rise until light
13.Finally bake in the hot oven for 30 minutes
14.Once baked completely, remove the Swedish tea ring
15.Frost while hot with confectioners' sugar frosting
