Swedish Meatballs Recipe
Swedish meatballs is a savory and filling meatballs recipe. Made with ground chuck steak and pork, the swedish meatballs is flavored with allspice, cloves, and ginger. Oven cooked with cream to moisten it, the swedish meatballs come out luscious and delicious.
Ingredients
2 pounds round or chuck steak, ground
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 pound lean pork, ground
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 cup mashed potatoes
1 cup milk
1 cup dry bread crumbs
Flour
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 cups light cream
Directions
Mix together, in a very large bowl, ground beef and pork, eggs, mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, brown sugar, all the seasonings and spices, and the milk.
Blend thoroughly and shape into balls the size of a large walnut.
The mixture should be soft.
Coat the meatballs with flour.
Heat the shortening, add a few meatballs at a time, and brown on all sides over a moderate heat.
Do not crowd the pan.
Transfer the browned meatballs to a large casserole, pour cream over them, and bake in a preheated 325° oven for 40 minutes.
