Swedish Fruit Squares Recipe
Ingredients
1/4 pound butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup orange juice
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup mixed candied fruit
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
Directions
Cream the butter with the sugar and egg.
Stir in the orange juice.
Sift the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg; stir into the creamed mixture.
Add the candied fruit, raisins, and pecans; mix well.
Spread the mixture into a greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly-roll pan; flatten with floured hands to even.
Bake in a 400° oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
Cut while slightly warm into 1 1/2-inch squares, but do not remove from the pan until cool.
