Ingredients
2 3/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon each soda and salt
1/2 cup (1/4 lb.) butter or margarine
1 cup buttermilk
Directions
In a bowl, blend flour with sugar, soda, and salt.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in buttermilk, using a fork, until mixture holds together adequately.
Shape into a ball with your hands and break off small pieces to make balls an inch in diameter; separate on a floured board.
Roll out each ball on floured board to make a round 4 to 5 inches in diameter, turning it over occasionally to prevent sticking.
Space rounds slightly apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake in a 400° oven for 5 minutes, or until lightly browned; check frequently.
Cool on wire racks.
