Super Sandwich Loaf Recipe
Super Sandwich Loaf was my family cook's signature dish, now that he's gone I have taken up the task of preparing it for the family. Ingredients
1 loaf (1 lb.) French bread
1/2 cup butter
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped Parsley
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
8 slices salami
8 slices mozzarella cheese
8 thin lengthwise slices dill pickle
8 thin green pepper rings
8 thin slices baked ham
Directions
Cut loaf into 1 1/2 inch slices almost through to bottom.
Using a sharp-pointed knife, cut out alternate slices, leaving 1/4 inch of the crust at bottom.
Blend butter and cheese; mix in the dry mustard, ketchup, onion, parsley, and horseradish.
Place loaf on a large piece of aluminum foil or a baking sheet.
Spread cheese mixture generously over the surface of each cutout section.
Arrange vertically in each cavity: 1 slice of salami, folded in half, 1 slice of mozzarella cheese, 1 slice of pickle, 1 green pepper ring, and 1 slice of ham, folded in thirds.
Set loaf in a 400°F oven and heat about 10 minutes, or until cheese mixture begins to melt.
