Sundae Pie Recipe
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 eggs, separated
1/2 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 tablespoon gelatin
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup heavy cream, whipped and sweetened
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate, grated, or small amount of cocoa
Baked 9-inch pie shell
Directions
Heat milk and nutmeg in double boiler.
Beat egg yolks with sugar and salt until light.
Pour hot milk over egg mixture, return to double boiler, and cook until thick.
Remove from heat, add gelatin which has soaked in water for 5 minutes.
Add vanilla, and let cool.
Beat with electric beater, and fold in stiffly-beaten egg whites.
Pour into pie shell, and refrigerate.
When cold, cover with cream and sprinkle with chocolate or cocoa.
