Ingredients

 
2 cups flour
 
2 tablespoons sugar
 
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
 
3/4 teaspoon salt
 
1/3 cup shortening
 
1 egg
 
3/4 cup milk
 
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter,melted
 
1/2 cup sugar
 
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Sift the flour, the 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Beat the egg and milk together in a small bowl and add all at once to the flour mixture; stir just until moistened.
Fill 10 greased muffin cups 2/3 full.
Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.
Dip the top of each muffin in melted butter and shake at once in a paper bag containing a mixture of the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.
