Sugar Cookies Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups unsifted cake and pastry flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cream or 1 egg white
Directions
Cream shortening, and add sugar gradually, continuing to cream.
Add eggs and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.
Sift dry ingredients together.
Blend into creamed mixture thoroughly.
Chill dough.
When ready to bake, roll dough 1/4 inch thick for soft cookies and about 1/8 inch thick for crisp cookies.
Cut in any desired size or shape.
Use broad spatula to transfer cookies to greased baking sheet.
Leave about 1/2 inch between cookies.
Brush lightly with cream.
Decorate as desired with nutmeats, sprinkles of colored sugar and the like.
Bake in 375°F. oven 8â€â€10 minutes.
